goodbye Texas…hello Nevada
Being a military family, you move. Sometimes often. One of the perks though is that most states allow you to keep your residency, wherever the “home of record” is. For us, that is Texas. Our home. So, for the last 14 years, I have done everything possible to keep my residency there, including renewing my drivers license from the UK via mail.
This year though, my license was set to expire again. And Texas was being a pain. They added several requirements to renew by mail, since I have taken that route so many times already. And we are not going anywhere. Anytime soon. So, I caved.
Goodbye Texas…..Hello Nevada.
I’m still not sure how I feel about it. I have held Texas residency for almost 34 years now. (Wow, did I just admit that?)
I do know that every time I open my wallet, it throws me off. Not just the license, but the picture. Not just because I look drugged in the new one, but because I look so much older. It is a stark wake up call to that fact that life has happened. The older picture was taken in either 2001 or 2002 before we moved overseas. Back when life wasn’t as hard or as good if that makes sense?!
Texas will always be my “home” and hold many fond memories, but I guess after 14 years it is time to embrace the present. And hey, the locals discounts here in Vegas are WAY better than the military discounts, so I supposed that counts for something too?
