spontaneity
Last weekend, the world apparently stopped turning and we had a rare day where Bryan was off AND there wasn’t a swim meet (or practice). Not sure how that happened, but I wasn’t going to let it go to waste!
If you didn’t already know, my family loves Chick-fil-a. There isn’t a Chick-fil-a in Vegas. In fact, until recently, the closest CFA was in LA or San Diego….5-6 hours away and that was horrible. Now, there is one 2 hours away in St. George, Utah.
So, Friday after school, we picked up Jacey and hit the road…Utah bound. All Jacey thought we were doing was CFA and had already deemed us the coolest parents in the world for driving 2 hours, after school just for CFA.
While we were sitting there eating, I asked Bryan if he would just like to stay the night. The day before, we’d gotten our yearly insurance distribution check from USAA and it would *just* cover a hotel and a few essentials (since well, all we had was what we were wearing). He jumped on the idea. We didn’t tell J though, so she could be surprised.
After dinner, we headed out to the Tuacahn Center for Arts and had planned to see a live nativity performance. That had been cancelled, due to all the ice (St. George had just gotten a record snowfall, the weekend before that broke 100 year old records) so instead, we rode the cheesy, fun train and crashed the attached high school’s holiday showcase performance.
Afterwards, we grabbed some Starbucks and then meandered around the St. George LDS Temple grounds, sipping the warmth and watching Jacey’s frolic in the snow. While we aren’t Mormon, it is hard to not just sit there and soak in the Lord’s presence on the peaceful grounds.
When the 24 degrees finally got to be a bit much, we headed to Cracker Barrel for some dumplins’. Did I mention there isn’t a Cracker Barrel in Vegas either…
Showers at the hotel, sleep and then breakfast at CFA before we headed back to Vegas. Short whirlwind trip, but it was much needed.
A little bit of spontaneity does the soul good.
And so does being deemed the “coolest parents ever”! :)
Guess you do take after your mother a little, glad you guys had a great time.memories.
